The House of Reflection is a two-storey residence designed for a retired academic seeking solitude, clarity, and a deep connection with nature. Set between a gentle river and a quiet residential road, the house draws inspiration from the duality of movement and stillness, serving as a meditative retreat for slow living and intellectual reflection.

At the heart of the home lies two small courtyards or Zen garden—an inward-facing sanctuary that brings natural light, seasonal change, and calmness to the everyday. Surrounding this core are warm, intimate spaces crafted with soft materials and muted tones, emphasizing tranquility over spectacle. The study, oriented toward the river, becomes a space for sunrise rituals and quiet thought, while the living and resting areas are organized to create a smooth, uninterrupted flow throughout the home.

The architecture is deliberately modest—focused on light, proportion, and silence. Openings are placed to frame views, welcome diffused daylight, and maintain a constant dialogue between inside and out. Passive environmental strategies, such as solar orientation, natural cross-ventilation, and energy storage systems, support sustainable living without compromising comfort.

This project is not merely a house—it is a reflection of a life dedicated to learning, now reoriented toward peace, presence, and personal sanctuary.
